Spent my first weekend ever at the fishery. The weather was bright sunshine but very cold.
Jamie had told me to try Black Buzzers and or Damsel Nymphs.
It took me about 5 hours of fishing to catch my first Trout, a Rainbow of about 3lb. It gave a good account of itself and was an overwintered fish in lovely condition. There had been odd fish through out the day coming out but it seemed like the fish needed the water to warm up a couple of degrees as the trout started feeding well for the last 3 hrs of daylight.
I caught a further 5 Trout in an hour and a half. They weighed from 2 1/2 lb up to 6lb. My last fish of the day was also my biggest and gave a terrific account of itself on my 5 wt rod and floating line.
All of my fish were caught on a cats whisker, in fact they all came to the same fly which sadly is no more, due to the teeth of said trout chewing it up.
I fished again on Sunday morning, I had to leave at 12 to head back home to Rhoose stopping at Bridgend for lunch at a good friends house. Sunday was FREEZING. The Easterly wind was bittierly cold and for the first time in many years I had the eyes of my rod solid with ice which I had to break of on 4 occassions. I managed 2 more Rainbows by 12 and was glad to get back in the motorhome and get warmed up. All of my fish had come on a dry line with a 10ft copolymer leader using a cats whisker.
Looking forward to my next trip down in a fortnights time.

Tight lines all.
